The familiar payment method is disappearing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

One of the biggest changes ahead? iDEAL, the most popular payment system in the Netherlands, will disappear from 2026. It will be replaced by a European successor: Wero<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why is iDEAL actually stopping?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Europe wants to tackle fragmentation in the payments landscape. While the Netherlands uses iDEAL, Belgium relies on Bancontact and Germany uses GiroPay. This makes cross-border payments unnecessarily complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Wero, Europe aims to introduce a single, unified payment system. Less fragmentation and more convenience for both businesses and consumers.
